On November, 4th the Collaborative Research Centre 614 received Mr. Prof. Schnieder of the Technological University of Braunschweig to a lecture entitled „Die Wertschätzung der Verkehrssicherheit“. 
The lecture fits thematically to the works of the working group „Security and Stability“. The working group addresses security as one of the central subjects, in particular the security of Self-optimizing systems.

At the beginning of the lecture Mr. Prof. Schnieder explaint, that the ambiguity of the word esteem, will be a central theme within the lecture. In the first part of the lecture esteem, that means the purification of road safety in the medial context, were discussed and with current accident statistics underlined. The fact, that only heavy accidents are shown disproportionate often in the media and thus a distorted picture of the reality originates in the society, was very interessting. In the second part, the development of a common concept definition of the security was shown. On the one hand the structuring of the terminology was introduced, that was developed within the scope of the research project iglos (intelligent glossary - link:  www.iglos.de
). On the other hand the considerations of avantification were discussed, that means the investigation of a security value, that contains more than only the number of the road casualties.

Mr. Prof. Schnieder understood how to convey the subject road safety to the audience with exciting information and entertaining anecdotes. During the following discussion he took the time to answer the questions of the audience in detail.

We would like to thank Mr. Prof. Schnieder for the diverse and informative lecture. It has given new impulses for further work, not only for our working group „Security and Stability“.
