The workgroup 4 – Demonstrator develops consistent application scenarios for an exemplary presentation of the self-optimization methods and techniques developed within the Collaborative Research Center (CRC). It serves as a common platform for communication on the demonstrators, coordinates the contributions of the subprojects by defining interfaces, specifications, and demands on the necessary models, and integrates the research results of the entire CRC into a common presentation. The working group convened on a regular basis to classify the applications of the CRC and to structure them hierarchically. The methods and concepts employed were analyzed in view of their suitability for being used on different hierarchical levels of mechatronic systems. Furthermore, recent applications from related domains outside the CRC were examined and their methods checked for possible use in the context of the CRC. Other application examples were worked out for the CRC, especially outside the context of the NBP (New Railway Technology Paderborn).
An extensive documentation of the work by the Demonstrator workgroup was published in the volume on „Selbstoptimierende Systeme des Maschinenbaus – Definitionen, Anwendungen, Konzepte“. Here, different demonstrators from the domain of the NBP/RailCab and from other fields are described in detail. Application scenarios are outlined to exemplify the achievement potential and the aims of self-optimization as well as the realization of the self-optimization process.
