Federal President Horst Köhler appointed Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Gausemeier in the Science Council of the Federal government on the 1st of February.
The Science Council advises the Federal Government and the governments of the federal states. Jürgen Gausemeier is professor at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute (HNI), Head of Product Engineering Department at the University of Paderborn and spokesman of the Collaborative Research Center 614. He teaches in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, he served as faculty director for nine years. For University-President Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Risch this confirms Jürgen Gausemeier's scientific reputation in the Science Council's and the international reputation of the HNI.
The Science Council was founded in 1957 by federal and state governments and is the oldest science policy advisory council in Europe. It is responsible for recommendations on content and structural development of science, research and develop at the higher education sector. It also helps to keep the international competitiveness of science in Germany and European science system.
